1So put away all malice and all deceit and hypocrisy and envy and all slander.

2Like newborn infants, long for the pure spiritual milk, that by it you may grow up into salvation—
2Pea mou holi lahi, ʻo hangē ko e fānau toki fāʻeleʻi, ki he huʻahuhu taʻekākā ʻoe folofola, koeʻuhi ke mou tupu ai:
3if indeed you have tasted that the Lord is good.
3He kuo mou kamata ʻoku ʻaloʻofa ʻae ʻEiki.
4As you come to him, a living stone rejected by men but in the sight of God chosen and precious,
4‌ʻAia ʻoku mou haʻu ki ai, ko e maka moʻui, kuo siʻaki moʻoni ʻe he kakai, ka kuo fili ʻe he ʻOtua, pea ʻoku mahuʻinga,
5you yourselves like living stones are being built up as a spiritual house, to be a holy priesthood, to offer spiritual sacrifices acceptable to God through Jesus Christ.
5Ko kimoutolu foki, ʻoku hangē ko e ngaahi maka moʻui kuo langa hake, ko e fale fakalaumālie, ko e kau taulaʻeiki māʻoniʻoni, ke ʻohake ʻae ngaahi feilaulau fakalaumālie, ʻoku ʻaonga ki he ʻOtua ʻia Sisu Kalaisi.
6For it stands in Scripture: “Behold, I am laying in Zion a stone, a cornerstone chosen and precious, and whoever believes in him will not be put to shame.”
6Ko ia ʻoku tuʻu ai foki ia ʻi he tohi, “Vakai, ʻoku ou ʻai ʻi Saione ʻae fungani maka tuliki, kuo fili, pea mahuʻinga: pea ko ia ʻe tui kiate ia, ʻe ʻikai mā ia.”
7So the honor is for you who believe, but for those who do not believe, “The stone that the builders rejected has become the cornerstone,”
7Ko ia, ʻoku mahuʻinga ia kiate kimoutolu ʻoku tui: ka kiate kinautolu ʻoku taʻetui, “ko e maka naʻe liʻaki ʻe he kau tufunga, ko ia ia kuo ngaohi ko e fungani maka ʻoe tuliki,
8and “A stone of stumbling, and a rock of offense.” They stumble because they disobey the word, as they were destined to do.
8Pea ko e maka tūkiaʻanga mo e maka fakaʻita kiate kinautolu ʻoku taʻetui ki he folofola, pea tūkia: ʻaia foki naʻe tuʻutuʻuni ʻakinautolu ki ai.”
9But you are a chosen race, a royal priesthood, a holy nation, a people for his own possession, that you may proclaim the excellencies of him who called you out of darkness into his marvelous light.
9Ka ko e kakai kuo fili ʻakimoutolu, ko e kau taulaʻeiki fakaʻeiʻeiki, ko e kakai māʻoniʻoni, ko e kakai kuo fakatau; koeʻuhi ke mou fakahā ʻae ʻulungāanga lelei ʻo ia naʻa ne ui mai ʻakimoutolu mei he poʻuli ki heʻene maama lahi:
10Once you were not a people, but now you are God’s people; once you had not received mercy, but now you have received mercy.
10‌ʻAkimoutolu naʻe ʻikai ko ha kakai ʻi muʻa, ka ko eni ko e kakai ʻae ʻOtua: naʻe ʻikai ke ʻilo ʻae ʻaloʻofa, ka ko eni kuo ʻilo ʻae ʻaloʻofa.
11Beloved, I urge you as sojourners and exiles to abstain from the passions of the flesh, which wage war against your soul.
11‌ʻOku ou kole atu, ʻe kāinga ʻofeina, ke mou hangē ko e kau muli mo e ʻāunofo, ke taʻofi ʻakimoutolu mei he ngaahi holi fakakakano, ʻaia ʻoku tauʻi ʻae laumālie;
12Keep your conduct among the Gentiles honorable, so that when they speak against you as evildoers, they may see your good deeds and glorify God on the day of visitation.
12Pea fai ke lelei hoʻomou moʻui ʻi he ʻao ʻoe kakai Senitaile: koeʻuhi, ʻi ha meʻa ʻoku nau lauʻikovi ai ʻakimoutolu ʻo hangē ko e kau fai kovi, ke nau mamata ki hoʻomou ngaahi ngāue lelei, pea fakamālō ai ki he ʻOtua ʻi he ʻaho ʻoe ʻaʻahi.
13Be subject for the Lord’s sake to every human institution, whether it be to the emperor as supreme,
13Fakavaivai ʻakimoutolu ki he tuʻutuʻuni kotoa pē ʻae tangata koeʻuhi ko e ʻEiki: pe ki he tuʻi, ʻaia ʻoku lahi taha pe;
14or to governors as sent by him to punish those who do evil and to praise those who do good.
14Pe ki he kau pule, ʻakinautolu kuo ne fakanofo koeʻuhi ke tautea ʻae kau fai kovi, ka ke fakamālō kiate kinautolu ʻoku fai lelei.
15For this is the will of God, that by doing good you should put to silence the ignorance of foolish people.
15He ʻoku pehē ʻae finangalo ʻoe ʻOtua, ke mou fakanoaʻi ʻaki ʻae fai lelei ʻae faʻa launoa ʻae kakai vale:
16Live as people who are free, not using your freedom as a cover-up for evil, but living as servants of God.
16‌ʻO taau mo e tauʻatāina, kaeʻoua naʻa maʻu ʻae tauʻatāina ke hangē ko e ʻufiʻufi ʻoe angahala, ka mou hangē ko e kau tamaioʻeiki ʻae ʻOtua.
17Honor everyone. Love the brotherhood. Fear God. Honor the emperor.
17Fakaʻapaʻapa ki he kakai kotoa pē. ʻOfa ki he kāinga lotu. Manavahē ki he ʻOtua. Fakaʻapaʻapa ki he tuʻi.
18Servants, be subject to your masters with all respect, not only to the good and gentle but also to the unjust.
18‌ʻAe kau tamaioʻeiki, mou fakavaivai ki hoʻomou ngaahi ʻeiki ʻi he manavahē
19For this is a gracious thing, when, mindful of God, one endures sorrows while suffering unjustly.
19He ko e meʻa ʻaonga eni, ʻo kapau ʻe kātaki ʻe ha taha ʻae mamahi mo e tautea taʻetotonu, ko ʻene loto lelei ki he ʻOtua.
20For what credit is it if, when you sin and are beaten for it, you endure? But if when you do good and suffer for it you endure, this is a gracious thing in the sight of God.
20He ko e hā hono lelei, ʻoka tautea ʻakimoutolu ʻi hoʻomou fai kovi, pea ʻoku mou faʻa kātaki ia? Ka ʻoka mou ka mamahiʻia ʻi hoʻomou fai lelei, pea faʻa kātaki, ʻoku lelei ia ki he ʻOtua.
21For to this you have been called, because Christ also suffered for you, leaving you an example, so that you might follow in his steps.
21He ko e meʻa ia kuo uiuiʻi ʻakimoutolu ki ai: he naʻe mamahi ʻa Kalaisi maʻamoutolu, pea kuo ne tuku mai ha faʻifaʻitakiʻanga kiate kimoutolu, ke mou topuvaʻe taha mo ia:
22He committed no sin, neither was deceit found in his mouth.
22‌ʻAia naʻe ʻikai ke ne fai ha angahala, pea naʻe ʻikai ʻilo ha kākā ʻi hono fofonga.
23When he was reviled, he did not revile in return; when he suffered, he did not threaten, but continued entrusting himself to him who judges justly.
23‌ʻAia naʻe ʻikai ke toe manuki ʻi hono manukia ia; ʻi heʻene mamahi, naʻe ʻikai te ne fakamana; ka naʻa ne tuku ia kiate ia ʻoku fakamaau māʻoniʻoni:
24He himself bore our sins in his body on the tree, that we might die to sin and live to righteousness. By his wounds you have been healed.
24‌ʻAia naʻa ne fua tokotaha pe ʻi hono sino ʻoʻona ʻetau ngaahi hia ki he ʻakau, koeʻuhi ʻi he ʻetau tauʻatāina mei he angahala, ke tau moʻui ki he māʻoniʻoni: pea ko e meʻa ʻi hono ngaahi ta kuo ko mou moʻui.
25For you were straying like sheep, but have now returned to the Shepherd and Overseer of your souls.
25He naʻa mou tatau mo e fanga sipi ʻalu hēhē pe; ka kuo mou foki mai eni ki he Tauhi mo e Leʻohi ʻo homou laumālie.
