1 Samuela 5

1When the Philistines captured the ark of God, they brought it from Ebenezer to Ashdod.
1PEA naʻe ʻave ʻe he kakai Filisitia ʻae puha tapu ʻoe ʻOtua, ʻo ʻomi ia mei Epenisa ki ʻAsitoti.
2Then the Philistines took the ark of God and brought it into the house of Dagon and set it up beside Dagon.
2‌ʻI he maʻu ʻe he kau Filisitia ʻae puha tapu ʻoe ʻOtua, naʻa nau ʻomi ia ki he fale ʻo Takoni, ʻonau fokotuʻu ia ofi kia Takoni.
3And when the people of Ashdod rose early the next day, behold, Dagon had fallen face downward on the ground before the ark of the LORD. So they took Dagon and put him back in his place.
3Pea ʻi he tuʻu hengihengi hake ʻi he ʻapongipongi ʻae kakai ʻo ʻAsitoti, vakai, kuo fakafoʻohifo ʻa Takoni ki hono mata ki he kelekele ʻi he ʻao ʻoe puha tapu ʻo Sihova. Pea naʻa nau hiki ʻa Takoni ʻo toe fokotuʻu ia ki hono potu.
4But when they rose early on the next morning, behold, Dagon had fallen face downward on the ground before the ark of the LORD, and the head of Dagon and both his hands were lying cut off on the threshold. Only the trunk of Dagon was left to him.
4Pea ʻi heʻenau tuʻu hengihengi hake ʻi he pongipongi ʻe taha, vakai, kuo tuʻulu ʻa Takoni mo hono mata ki he kelekele he ʻao ʻoe puha tapu ʻo Sihova; pea kuo motuua ʻae ʻulu ʻo Takoni, mo hono fasi ʻae nima fakatouʻosi ʻi he mata fale: naʻe toe pe kia Takoni ʻa hono foʻi sino pe.
5This is why the priests of Dagon and all who enter the house of Dagon do not tread on the threshold of Dagon in Ashdod to this day.
5Ko ia ʻoku ʻikai lakalakavale ʻae kau taulaʻeiki ʻo Takoni, pe ha tokotaha ʻoku haʻu ki he fale ʻo Takoni, ki he matafale ʻo Takoni ʻi ʻAsitoti ʻo aʻu ki he ʻaho ni.
6The hand of the LORD was heavy against the people of Ashdod, and he terrified and afflicted them with tumors, both Ashdod and its territory.
7And when the men of Ashdod saw how things were, they said, “The ark of the God of Israel must not remain with us, for his hand is hard against us and against Dagon our god.”
7Pea ʻi he mamata ʻae kau tangata ʻo ʻAsitoti ʻoku pehē, naʻa nau lea, “ʻE ʻikai tuku ʻae puha tapu ʻoe ʻOtua ʻo ʻIsileli: he ʻoku mamahi hono nima kiate kitautolu, pea kia Takoni ko hotau ʻotua.”
8So they sent and gathered together all the lords of the Philistines and said, “What shall we do with the ark of the God of Israel?” They answered, “Let the ark of the God of Israel be brought around to Gath.” So they brought the ark of the God of Israel there.
9But after they had brought it around, the hand of the LORD was against the city, causing a very great panic, and he afflicted the men of the city, both young and old, so that tumors broke out on them.
9Pea naʻe pehē, hili ʻenau haʻamo fano ia, naʻe hoko mālohi ʻae nima ʻo Sihova ki he kolo ʻi he fakaʻauha lahi: pea ne taaʻi ʻae kau tangata ʻoe kolo, ʻae siʻi mo e lahi, pea naʻa nau mahaki kovi ʻi honau potu fufū.
10So they sent the ark of God to Ekron. But as soon as the ark of God came to Ekron, the people of Ekron cried out, “They have brought around to us the ark of the God of Israel to kill us and our people.”
10Ko ia naʻa nau ʻave ai ʻae puha tapu ʻoe ʻOtua ki Ekiloni. Pea ʻi he hoko ʻae puha tapu ʻoe ʻOtua ki Ekiloni, naʻe tangi ʻae kakai Ekiloni, ʻo pehē, “Kuo nau ʻomi ʻae puha tapu ʻoe ʻOtua ʻo ʻIsileli kiate kitautolu, ke tāmateʻi kitautolu mo hotau kakai.”
11They sent therefore and gathered together all the lords of the Philistines and said, “Send away the ark of the God of Israel, and let it return to its own place, that it may not kill us and our people.” For there was a deathly panic throughout the whole city. The hand of God was very heavy there.
11Ko ia naʻa nau fekau ʻo tānaki ʻae houʻeiki kotoa ʻoe kakai Filisitia, ʻonau pehē, “Fekau ke ʻave ʻae puha tapu ʻoe ʻOtua ʻo ʻIsileli, pea tuku ke ʻalu ia ki hono potu, telia naʻa ne tāmateʻi kitautolu mo hotau kakai:” he naʻe hoko ʻae fakaʻauha lahi ki he potu kotoa ʻoe kolo; naʻe mamafa ʻaupito ʻae nima ʻoe ʻOtua ʻi ai.
12The men who did not die were struck with tumors, and the cry of the city went up to heaven.
12Pea ko e kau tangata naʻe ʻikai mate naʻe taaʻi ʻakinautolu ʻaki ʻae mahaki kovi: pea naʻe ʻalu hake ki langi ʻae tangi ʻae kolo.
