1For I want you to know how great a struggle I have for you and for those at Laodicea and for all who have not seen me face to face,

1HE ko hoku loto ke mou ʻilo ʻae feinga lahi ʻoku ʻiate au kiate kimoutolu, pea kiate kinautolu ʻi Leotisia, pea kiate kinautolu ʻoku teʻeki ai te nau mamata ki hoku mata ʻi he sino;

2that their hearts may be encouraged, being knit together in love, to reach all the riches of full assurance of understanding and the knowledge of God’s mystery, which is Christ,

2Koeʻuhi ke fiemālie honau loto, kuo fehokotaki ʻi he ʻofa, ki he koloa kotoa pē ʻoe fakapapau lahi ʻoe ʻilo, ki he fakahā ʻoe meʻa fakalilolilo ʻae ʻOtua, ʻio, ʻae Tamai, pea mo Kalaisi;

3in whom are hidden all the treasures of wisdom and knowledge.

3‌ʻAia ʻoku fufū ai ʻae ngaahi koloa kotoa pē ʻoe poto mo e ʻilo.

4I say this in order that no one may delude you with plausible arguments.

4Pea ʻoku ou pehē ni, ke ʻoua naʻa ai ha tangata te ne fakahalaʻi ʻakimoutolu ʻi he lea fakaoloolo.

5For though I am absent in body, yet I am with you in spirit, rejoicing to see your good order and the firmness of your faith in Christ.

5He neongo ʻoku ou mamaʻo ʻi he sino, ka ʻoku ou ʻiate kimoutolu ʻi he laumālie, ʻo fiefia ʻo mamata ki hoʻomou anga fakapotopoto, mo e tuʻumaʻu ʻo hoʻomou tui kia Kalaisi.

6Therefore, as you received Christ Jesus the Lord, so walk in him,

6Ko ia ʻi hoʻomou maʻu ʻa Kalaisi Sisu ko e ʻEiki, ke mou ʻaʻeva ʻiate ia:

7rooted and built up in him and established in the faith, just as you were taught, abounding in thanksgiving.

7Kuo aka mo langa hake ʻiate ia, pea fakatuʻumaʻu ʻi he tui, ʻo hangē ko e akonekina ʻakimoutolu, pea ke mou tupulekina ai ʻi he fakafetaʻi.

8See to it that no one takes you captive by philosophy and empty deceit, according to human tradition, according to the elemental spirits of the world, and not according to Christ.

8Vakai naʻa taki fakahē ʻakimoutolu ʻe ha tangata ʻe tokotaha ʻi he fiepoto mo e lau fakakākā, ʻoku taau mo e talatupuʻa ʻae tangata, ʻo ngali mo e ngaahi ʻulungāanga fakamaama, ka ʻoku ʻikai taau mo Kalaisi.

9For in him the whole fullness of deity dwells bodily,

9He ʻoku nofo fakamoʻomoʻoni kiate ia hono mātuʻaki fonu ʻoe ʻOtua.

10and you have been filled in him, who is the head of all rule and authority.

10Pea ʻoku fakafonu ʻakimoutolu ʻiate ia, ʻaia ko e ʻulu ʻoe pule kotoa pē mo e mālohi:

11In him also you were circumcised with a circumcision made without hands, by putting off the body of the flesh, by the circumcision of Christ,

11‌ʻAia naʻe kamu ai foki ʻakimoutolu ʻi he kamu taʻefai ʻe he nima, ʻi he siʻaki ʻoe sino ʻoe ngaahi angahala fakakakano ʻi he kamu ʻo Kalaisi:

12having been buried with him in baptism, in which you were also raised with him through faith in the powerful working of God, who raised him from the dead.

12‌ʻO tanu mo ia ʻi he papitaiso, ʻaia kuo mou toetuʻu ai mo ia ʻi he tui ʻoku mei he ngāue ʻae ʻOtua, ʻaia kuo ne fokotuʻu hake ia mei he pekia.

13And you, who were dead in your trespasses and the uncircumcision of your flesh, God made alive together with him, having forgiven us all our trespasses,

13Pea ko kimoutolu, naʻe mate ʻi hoʻomou ngaahi angahala mo e taʻekamu ʻo homou kakano, kuo ne fakamoʻui fakataha mo ia, ʻi heʻene fakamolemole hoʻomou ngaahi angahala kotoa pē;

14by canceling the record of debt that stood against us with its legal demands. This he set aside, nailing it to the cross.

14‌ʻO tāmateʻi ʻi he mate ʻae tohi nima ʻoe ngaahi tuʻutuʻuni ʻaia naʻe tuʻu kiate kitautolu, ʻaia naʻe taʻofi kiate kitautolu, ʻo ne toʻo ʻaupito ia ʻo tuki ki hono ʻakau;

15He disarmed the rulers and authorities and put them to open shame, by triumphing over them in him.

15Pea ʻosi ʻene maumau ʻae ngaahi pule mo e ngaahi mālohi, naʻa ne fakaʻilo fakahā atu ʻakinautolu ʻo vikiviki ai kiate kinautolu.

16Therefore let no one pass judgment on you in questions of food and drink, or with regard to a festival or a new moon or a Sabbath.

16Ko ia ke ʻoua naʻa ai ha taha ʻe fakaanga kiate kimoutolu ʻi ha meʻakai, pe ha meʻainu, pe ki ha ʻaho kātoanga, pe ʻi ha tuʻu efiafi, pe ʻi he ngaahi Sāpate:

17These are a shadow of the things to come, but the substance belongs to Christ.

17‌ʻAia ko e ngaahi ʻata ʻoe meʻa ʻoku haʻu; ka ko hono sino ʻoku ʻia Kalaisi.

18Let no one disqualify you, insisting on asceticism and worship of angels, going on in detail about visions, puffed up without reason by his sensuous mind,

18Ke ʻoua naʻa kākaaʻi ʻakimoutolu ʻe ha taha ʻi hoʻomou totongi, ʻi he fie angavaivai mo e lotu ki he kau ʻāngelo, ʻi he kaunoa ki he ngaahi meʻa naʻe ʻikai te ne mamata ai, mo e fakafuofua lahi noa pē ia ʻi hono loto fakakakano,

19and not holding fast to the Head, from whom the whole body, nourished and knit together through its joints and ligaments, grows with a growth that is from God.

19Pea ʻoku ʻikai puke maʻu ki he ʻUlu, ʻaia ʻoku maʻu mei ai ʻae tokoni ki he sino kotoa, ʻi he ngaahi kupu mo e noʻo, pea kuo femaʻutaki fakataha, ʻoku tupu ʻi he tupu fakaʻotua.

20If with Christ you died to the elemental spirits of the world, why, as if you were still alive in the world, do you submit to regulations—

20Ko ia kapau ʻoku mou mate mo Kalaisi mei he ngaahi ʻulungāanga fakamaama, ko e hā ʻoku mou moʻulaloa ai ki he ngaahi tuʻutuʻuni, ʻo hangē ʻoku mou moʻui fakamaama, ʻo fakatatau mo e ngaahi fekau mo e ngaahi akonaki ʻae tangata;

21“Do not handle, Do not taste, Do not touch”

21“ʻOua naʻa ala;” “ʻOua naʻa kamata;” “ʻOua naʻa milihi;”

22(referring to things that all perish as they are used)—according to human precepts and teachings?

22‌ʻAia ʻe ʻauha kotoa pē ʻi hono ngāueʻaki?

23These have indeed an appearance of wisdom in promoting self-made religion and asceticism and severity to the body, but they are of no value in stopping the indulgence of the flesh.

23Ko e ngaahi meʻa ko ia ʻoku ʻai moʻoni hono matamata poto ʻi he fiefie lotu, mo e angavaivai, pea mo e taʻetokangaʻi ʻoe sino; ka ʻoku ʻikai ʻaonga, ka ki he fakafiemālie ʻoe kakano.
