Hosea 13
1When Ephraim spoke, there was trembling; he was exalted in Israel, but he incurred guilt through Baal and died.
1ʻI HE lea tetetete ʻa ʻIfalemi, naʻa ne hakeakiʻi ia ʻe ia ʻi ʻIsileli; ka ʻi heʻene talangataʻa ia Peali, ne mate ia.
2And now they sin more and more, and make for themselves metal images, idols skillfully made of their silver, all of them the work of craftsmen. It is said of them, “Those who offer human sacrifice kiss calves!”
2Pea ʻoku nau angahala ni ʻo lahi hake, pea kuo nau ngaohi ʻae ngaahi fakatātā ʻaki ʻa ʻenau siliva kuo haka, pea mo e ngaahi tamapua ʻo fakatatau mo ʻenau ʻilo, ko e ngāue kotoa pē ia ʻae kau tufunga: ʻoku nau pehē ki ai, ‘Tuku ʻae kau tangata ʻoku feilaulau ke ʻuma ki he fanga pulu siʻi.’
3Therefore they shall be like the morning mist or like the dew that goes early away, like the chaff that swirls from the threshing floor or like smoke from a window.
3Ko ia te nau hangē ko e ʻao ʻoe pongipongi, pea hangē ko e hahau ʻoe hengihengi ʻoku mole atu, hangē ko e kafukafu kuo tafi ʻe he ʻahiohio mei he hahaʻanga, pea hangē ko e ʻahu mei he ngotoʻumu.
4But I am the LORD your God from the land of Egypt; you know no God but me, and besides me there is no savior.
4“Ka ko Sihova au, ko ho ʻOtua, mei he fonua ʻo ʻIsipite, pea ʻikai te ke ʻilo ha ʻotua kehe ka ko au pe: he ʻoku ʻikai mo ha fakamoʻui ka ko au pe.
5It was I who knew you in the wilderness, in the land of drought;
5“Naʻaku ʻilo koe ʻi he toafa, ʻi he fonua ʻoe laʻāina lahi.
6but when they had grazed, they became full, they were filled, and their heart was lifted up; therefore they forgot me.
6ʻO fakatatau ki heʻenau mohuku, naʻa nau mākona; naʻa nau mākona, pea naʻe hiki hake honau loto; ko ia kuo nau fakangaloʻi au.
7So I am to them like a lion; like a leopard I will lurk beside the way.
7Ko ia teu hangē ko e laione kiate kinautolu: hangē ko e lēpati ʻi he hala teu lamasi ʻakinautolu:
8I will fall upon them like a bear robbed of her cubs; I will tear open their breast, and there I will devour them like a lion, as a wild beast would rip them open.
8Te u fakafetaulaki mo kinautolu hangē ko e pea, kuo fakamasiva ʻi he ʻave ʻene fānau, pea te u haeʻi ʻae kofu ʻo honau mafu, pea te u folo ʻakinautolu ʻi ai ʻo hangē ko e laione; ʻe haehae ʻakinautolu ʻe he fanga manu ʻoe vao.
9He destroys you, O Israel, for you are against me, against your helper.
9“ʻE ʻIsileli, kuo ke fakaʻauha koe ʻe koe: ka ʻoku ʻiate au hoʻo tokoni.
10Where now is your king, to save you in all your cities? Where are all your rulers— those of whom you said, “Give me a king and princes”?
10Te u hoko ko ho tuʻi: kofaʻā ia ha taha kehe te ne fakamoʻui koe ʻi ho ngaahi kolo kotoa pē? Pea mo hoʻo kau fakamaau ʻaia naʻa mou pehē ai, ‘Foaki mai ha tuʻi mo e houʻeiki?’
11I gave you a king in my anger, and I took him away in my wrath.
11Naʻaku foaki ha tuʻi kiate koe ʻi hoku houhau, pea naʻaku toʻo ia ʻi heʻeku tuputāmaki.
12The iniquity of Ephraim is bound up; his sin is kept in store.
12Kuo tākai ʻae hia ʻa ʻIfalemi; kuo fufū ʻene angahala.
13The pangs of childbirth come for him, but he is an unwise son, for at the right time he does not present himself at the opening of the womb.
13Ko e ngaahi mamahi ʻae fefine ʻoku langā ʻe hoko kiate ia: ko e foha vale ia; ʻe ʻikai lelei ʻene nofo fuoloa ʻi he potu ʻoku hao ai ʻae fānau.
14Shall I ransom them from the power of Sheol? Shall I redeem them from Death? O Death, where are your plagues? O Sheol, where is your sting? Compassion is hidden from my eyes.
14Te u huhuʻi ʻakinautolu mei he mālohi ʻoe faʻitoka; te u huhuʻi ʻakinautolu mei he mate! ʻE mate, te u hoko ko ho maumauʻi? ʻE faʻitoka, te u hoko ko ho fakaʻauha? “ʻE puli ʻae fakatomala mei hoku mata.
15Though he may flourish among his brothers, the east wind, the wind of the LORD, shall come, rising from the wilderness, and his fountain shall dry up; his spring shall be parched; it shall strip his treasury of every precious thing.
15Neongo ʻoku faʻa fua ia ʻi he lotolotonga ʻo hono kāinga, ʻe hoko ha matangi hahake, ʻe haʻu ʻae matangi ʻa Sihova mei he toafa, pea ʻe maha ʻa ʻene matavai, pea ʻe matuʻu ʻe ʻene vai mapunopuna; te ne maumau ʻae koloa ʻoe ngaahi ipu lelei kotoa pē.
16Samaria shall bear her guilt, because she has rebelled against her God; they shall fall by the sword; their little ones shall be dashed in pieces, and their pregnant women ripped open.
16ʻE hoko ʻo lala ʻa Samēlia; he kuo ne angatuʻu ki hono ʻOtua: te nau tō ʻi he heletā: ʻe lailai ke iiki ʻa ʻenau fānau kei huhu, pea ko honau kau fefine ʻoku feitama ʻe haehae.”
