1I am the man who has seen affliction under the rod of his wrath;
1KO au ko e tangata kuo mamata ki he mamahi ʻi he meʻa tā ʻa hono houhau.
2he has driven and brought me into darkness without any light;
2Kuo ne tataki au mo ʻomi au ki he poʻuli, kae ʻikai ki he maama.
3surely against me he turns his hand again and again the whole day long.
3Ko e moʻoni kuo ne liliu kiate au, ʻoku ne liliu hono nima kiate au ʻi he ʻaho kotoa.
4He has made my flesh and my skin waste away; he has broken my bones;
4Ko hoku kili mo hoku kakano kuo ne ngaohi ke motuʻa; kuo ne fesiʻi hoku ngaahi hui.
5he has besieged and enveloped me with bitterness and tribulation;
5Kuo ne langaʻi meʻa kiate au, pea kuo ne takatakai au ʻaki ʻae kona mo e mamahi.
6he has made me dwell in darkness like the dead of long ago.

7He has walled me about so that I cannot escape; he has made my chains heavy;

8though I call and cry for help, he shuts out my prayer;

9he has blocked my ways with blocks of stones; he has made my paths crooked.

10He is a bear lying in wait for me, a lion in hiding;

11he turned aside my steps and tore me to pieces; he has made me desolate;

12he bent his bow and set me as a target for his arrow.

13He drove into my kidneys the arrows of his quiver;

14I have become the laughingstock of all peoples, the object of their taunts all day long.

15He has filled me with bitterness; he has sated me with wormwood.
15Kuo ne fakafonu au ʻaki ʻae kona, kuo ne fakakonaʻi au ʻaki ʻae konaʻiʻī.
16He has made my teeth grind on gravel, and made me cower in ashes;
16Kuo ne fesiʻi foki hoku kau nifo ʻaki ʻae kilikili, kuo ne pani au ʻaki ʻae efu.
17my soul is bereft of peace; I have forgotten what happiness is;

18so I say, “My endurance has perished; so has my hope from the LORD.”

19Remember my affliction and my wanderings, the wormwood and the gall!
19ʻI heʻeku manatu ki hoku mahaki pea mo ʻeku mamahi, ʻae kona pea mo e ʻahu.
20My soul continually remembers it and is bowed down within me.
20ʻOku kei manatu ki ai hoku laumālie, pea ʻoku angavaivai ia ʻiate au.
21But this I call to mind, and therefore I have hope:

22The steadfast love of the LORD never ceases; his mercies never come to an end;
22Ko e meʻa ʻi he ʻaloʻofa ʻa Sihova ʻoku ʻikai te tau ʻauha, koeʻuhi ʻoku ʻikai ke ngata ʻene manavaʻofa.
23they are new every morning; great is your faithfulness.
23ʻOku foʻou ia ʻi he pongipongi kotoa pē, ʻoku lahi hoʻo angatonu.
24“The LORD is my portion,” says my soul, “therefore I will hope in him.”
24ʻOku pehē ʻe hoku laumālie, “Ko hoku tofiʻa ʻa Sihova: ko ia te u ʻamanaki lelei ʻiate ia.”
25The LORD is good to those who wait for him, to the soul who seeks him.
25ʻOku lelei ʻa Sihova kiate kinautolu ʻoku tatali kiate ia, ki he laumālie ʻoku kumi kiate ia.
26It is good that one should wait quietly for the salvation of the LORD.
26ʻOku lelei ki he tangata ke ne ʻamanaki, pea ne tatali fakatatoka foki ki he fakamoʻui meia Sihova.
27It is good for a man that he bear the yoke in his youth.
27ʻOku lelei ki he tangata ke ne fua ʻae haʻamo ʻi heʻene kei talavou.
28Let him sit alone in silence when it is laid on him;
28ʻOku ne nofo tokotaha pe, pea ʻoku longo pe, koeʻuhi kuo ne fua ia ʻe ia pe.
29let him put his mouth in the dust— there may yet be hope;
29ʻOku ne ʻai hono ngutu ʻi he efu, ko e meʻa naʻa ʻoku kei ai ha ʻamanaki.
30let him give his cheek to the one who strikes, and let him be filled with insults.
30ʻOku ne tuku hono kouʻahe kiate ia ʻoku ne taaʻi ia: ʻoku ne pito ʻaupito ʻi he lauʻi kovi.
31For the Lord will not cast off forever,
31He koeʻuhi ʻe ʻikai liʻaki ke lauikuonga ʻe Sihova:
32but, though he cause grief, he will have compassion according to the abundance of his steadfast love;
32He kapau te ne fakamamahi, ka te ne manavaʻofa foki ʻo fakatatau ki hono lahi ʻo ʻene ngaahi ʻaloʻofa.
33for he does not willingly afflict or grieve the children of men.
33He ʻoku ʻikai te ne fie tautea, pe fakamamahi ʻae fānau ʻae tangata.
34To crush underfoot all the prisoners of the earth,
34Ke laiki ʻi hono lalo vaʻe ʻae ngaahi pōpula kotoa pē ʻo māmani,
35to deny a man justice in the presence of the Most High,
35Ke fakatafe ʻae totonu ʻoe tangata ʻi he ʻao ʻoe fofonga ʻoe Fungani Māʻoniʻoni,
36to subvert a man in his lawsuit, the Lord does not approve.
36Ke kākaaʻi ʻae tangata ʻi hono fakamaauʻi ʻoku ʻikai lelei ai ʻa Sihova.
37Who has spoken and it came to pass, unless the Lord has commanded it?
37Ko hai ia ʻoku fakahā, pea ʻoku hoko ia, ʻo kapau ʻoku ʻikai ke fekau ʻe Sihova?
38Is it not from the mouth of the Most High that good and bad come?
38ʻOku ʻikai ke ʻalu mei he fofonga ʻoe Fungani Māʻolunga ʻae lelei mo e kovi.
39Why should a living man complain, a man, about the punishment of his sins?
39Ko e hā ʻoku lāunga ai ʻae tangata moʻui, ʻae tangata koeʻuhi ko e tautea ʻo ʻene ngaahi angahala?
40Let us test and examine our ways, and return to the LORD!
40Ke tau kumi mo ʻahiʻahiʻi hotau ngaahi ʻaluʻanga, pea toe tafoki kia Sihova.
41Let us lift up our hearts and hands to God in heaven:
41Ke tau hiki hake hotau loto mo hotau nima ki he ʻOtua ʻi he ngaahi langi.
42“We have transgressed and rebelled, and you have not forgiven.
42“Kuo mau fai talangataʻa, pea kuo mau angatuʻu: ʻoku teʻeki ai te ke fakamolemole.
43“You have wrapped yourself with anger and pursued us, killing without pity;
43“Kuo ke ʻuʻufi ʻaki ʻae houhau, pea fakatangaʻi ʻakimautolu: kuo ke tāmateʻi pea naʻe ʻikai te ke manavaʻofa.
44you have wrapped yourself with a cloud so that no prayer can pass through.
44Kuo ke ʻufiʻufi koe ʻaki ʻae ʻao, ke ʻoua naʻa ʻasi atu ʻa ʻemau kole.
45You have made us scum and garbage among the peoples.
45Kuo ke ngaohi ʻakimautolu ko e efe mo e ʻotoʻota ʻi he lotolotonga ʻoe kakai.
46“All our enemies open their mouths against us;
46“Kuo mafaʻa ʻae ngutu ʻa homau kau fili kotoa pē kiate kimautolu.
47panic and pitfall have come upon us, devastation and destruction;
47Kuo hoko mai ʻae manavahē mo e tauhele kiate kimautolu, ʻae lala mo e ʻauha.”
48my eyes flow with rivers of tears because of the destruction of the daughter of my people.
48ʻOku tafe hifo hoku mata, hangē ko e ngaahi vaitafe, koeʻuhi ko e ʻauha ʻae ʻofefine ʻo hoku kakai.
49“My eyes will flow without ceasing, without respite,
49“ʻOku tafe hifo ʻa hoku mata, pea ʻikai ʻosi, ʻoku ʻikai siʻi ke tuku.
50until the LORD from heaven looks down and sees;
50Ke ʻoua ke ʻafio mai ʻa Sihova, pea vakai mei he langi.
51my eyes cause me grief at the fate of all the daughters of my city.
51Ko hoku mata ʻoku ne ueʻi hoku loto, koeʻuhi ko e ngaahi ʻofefine kotoa pē ʻo ʻeku kolo.
52“I have been hunted like a bird by those who were my enemies without cause;
52“Naʻe tuli fakamamahi au ʻe hoku kau fili hangē ha manupuna, taʻehanoʻuhinga.
53they flung me alive into the pit and cast stones on me;
53Kuo nau motuhi ʻeku moʻui ʻi he fale fakapōpula, pea kuo lī ha maka kiate au.
54water closed over my head; I said, ‘I am lost.’

55“I called on your name, O LORD, from the depths of the pit;
55“ʻE Sihova ne u ui ki ho huafa mei he fale fakapōpula taumamaʻo.
56you heard my plea, ‘Do not close your ear to my cry for help!’
56Kuo ke fanongo ki hoku leʻo; ʻoua naʻa ke fufū ho fofonga ki heʻeku mānava, ki heʻeku tangi.
57You came near when I called on you; you said, ‘Do not fear!’
57Naʻa ke ʻunuʻunu mai ʻo ofi ʻi he ʻaho ko ia ne u ui kiate koe: naʻa ke pehē, “ʻOua naʻa manavahē.”
58“You have taken up my cause, O Lord; you have redeemed my life.
58“ʻE Sihova kuo ke langomakiʻi hoku laumālie; kuo ke huhuʻi ʻeku moʻui.
59You have seen the wrong done to me, O LORD; judge my cause.
59ʻE Sihova kuo ke ʻafioʻi ki he kovi kuo fai kiate au, fakamaau ʻe koe ʻeku meʻa.
60You have seen all their vengeance, all their plots against me.
60Kuo ke ʻafio ki heʻenau lili kotoa pē, mo ʻenau ngaahi filioʻi kiate au.
61“You have heard their taunts, O LORD, all their plots against me.
61“ʻE ʻEiki kuo ke fanongo ki heʻenau taukae, pea mo ʻenau ngaahi filioʻi kiate au;
62The lips and thoughts of my assailants are against me all the day long.
62ʻae loungutu ʻonautolu naʻe tuʻu hake kiate au, pea mo ʻenau fakatupu meʻa kiate au ʻi he ʻaho kotoa pē.
63Behold their sitting and their rising; I am the object of their taunts.
63Vakai ki heʻenau nofo hifo mo ʻenau tuʻu hake; ko au ko ʻenau taʻanga.
64“You will repay them, O LORD, according to the work of their hands.
64“ʻE ʻEiki ke ke tuku kiate kinautolu ha totongi, ʻo fakatatau ki he ngāue ʻa honau nima.
65You will give them dullness of heart; your curse will be on them.
65Tuku kiate kinautolu ʻae mamahi ʻoe loto, ʻa hoʻo malaʻia kiate kinautolu.
66You will pursue them in anger and destroy them from under your heavens, O LORD.”
